I have slowly faded into who she is now.

It's that time of year again! #Spotifywrapped2022

The only thing I can say, "Who am I!" or more so, "Who was I this year?" While my top artists didn't surprise me, or change (much), my top songs and playlist as a whole represent someone I don't yet recognize.

If you've followed along (or would like to catch up), my taste usually contains quite a few foreign songs. Yet, this year despite being in my top five genres, foreign music takes up less than 10% of my list. Foreign artists, rounding out a full 10%, but half of those were done through the English language. I thought I could equate this fact due to the large amount of music I played at camp, and the need to avoid the "can you play xyz playlist?' conversations with preteens. However, the majority of my top songs come from songs I've played over the second half of the year.

The events of my life may have more to do with my listen habits as of late. I have found 'angst' and lofi-beats are my go-to's. Which makes me reflect more on feelings I'm experiencing more than thinking my musical taste has changed. I have had the thought, "I don't even want to listen to music right now," more times than I can count. My headspace won't clear room for focusing on music so I find myself just entertaining it with 'background noise'.

Which I would call at least 50% of the songs on my wrapped list. Not to say that they are bad or not my taste, they're just songs that don't make me think too much, which says a lot coming from someone who can tell stories through music. My wrapped feels more like what's on my 'on repeat' playlist than a remembrance of my taste in music this past year.

Through all of this, my amount of time listening has surprisingly gone up from last year (if only slightly).

I'm sure I've sold it as a "must listen" kinda of playlist by now, but as with this digital diary, I am not one to withhold parts of me. So, next time you just need a random playlist enjoy this playlist listened to From My Bedroom Floor.

Thanks as always,

Chelsea
