I listened to music. What else is new.
Somehow I made it to March of a new year without bringing up my 'Spotify' top played song list.
I was surprised at the list as a whole.
It features a...wait for it...a majority of foreign language songs. To be exact, there are only nine songs that are in English. Out of my most listened to songs from 2019 only NINE were in English.
Now, that, of course, doesn't mean I didn't listen to mass amounts of other songs, these were just the most frequently played ones.
In comparison to my 2018 'most played songs', for my top five, there were four songs that weren't in English. However, the whole list only had one-fourth of the songs being in a foreign language (25 out of 100).
I could justify some of this to my favorite English speaking artists putting out albums filled with songs that I would listen to, because of this I wouldn't usually listen to only one song. There are artists (Kehlani, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, to name a few) who's albums I had on repeat! Compared to my most played songs, being more singles' and title songs that captured my attention. One playlist also has thousands of songs versus a few hundred, so they come around much more frequently on shuffle.
But honestly, my listening pattern doesn't even need justification. Good music is good music.
My foreign language music playlist has become my 'go-to' playlist! (There are many genres under this generalized title.)
After seeing the list and counting the literal two handfuls of English language songs I was honestly surprised but not disappointed.

Don't get me started on my dropped number in streaming hours...long story short, well I spent a few months preoccupied.
It'll be interesting to see what this year's numbers look like. Three months in and I'm still loving (if not more) foreign language music over English music.
Stayed tuned.
As always thanks for keeping up with this journey!
