Surprises and Misbeliefs

Listen, I'm not saying you're wrong...but also, I don't think it's right.

It‘s that time of year again, 'Spotify Wrapped' season! I was successful in doubling the number of English songs on my playlist from last year, but honestly I thought there would have been a few more.

I spent this year playing what I called "background sound". You know, that music that can play while you do other things and not be distracted by. Six out of ten times I would pick my foreign language playlist (which in itself doubled in the last year). So, overall not truly surprised my list was once again heavy on the foreign music.

In other news, Spotify says I listened to almost 500 genres this year. 96 of which were "new" genres...whatever that means. Along with new genres, I also listened to many new artists. Taking those artists discographies into account, I am not surprised that my top songs or artists haven't changed much. I have a tendency to dive deep into an artist's discography. So, my favs always get more plays out of comfortability and preference.

That's me as a listener; where I get skeptical is the songs that made their way onto my ‘top 100‘ list. Not mad in the least, but my 'most played' song took months to get to 100 plays and had only been played seventeen times since May. Seems a little 'sus' to me. While other songs I would've thought I definitely played at least 200 times didn't even make the list.

17,401 more hours than 2019.

I guess I was a little more all over the place, so the tops are predictable.

My biggest gripe with 'Spotify Wrapped' is it always happens at the beginning of December! Like girl, give me the rest of the month! I'm sure those numbers would be way different come December 31st.

But alas, here we are again. Another year of music choices come and gone. Take a listen if you're bold, or bored.

Can't wait to wrap another year, see you then Wrapped 2021. And see you soon reader. Stay safe and healthy where you can.
